PLAYING RULES
All
rules are covered by the “Slo-pitch National” rule
book.
http://www.slo-pitch.com/PPP/card6/c620.aspx?r=0
Except for the following league only rules:
1)
Ground
rules for each park will be covered by the umpire at the
coaches meeting, which will take place at the start of
each game.
2)
This
is a fun league, but we would ask that the only people
to discuss an umpire’s call would be the coach of a
team.
A – an umpire will not tolerate any foul language directed
at him, or at the other team. This will result in an
ejection from the game.
B – if a player is ejected from a game, for what ever
reason. There will be a report written up by the umpire
and forwarded to the league convener. At that time it
will be looked into for further disciplinary actions.
3)
Game time is 1 hour and 15 minutes. No new inning
will start after the allotted time period. This will
allow for the game to end as well as the new teams to
warm up.
4)
Start times for games are 17:00, 18:30, 20:00 & 21:30.
If a team does not have at least 7 players from their
original roster, they will be given a 10 minute grace
period to field a team, but this grace period will cut
into the game time. After such grace if the team does
not have enough roster players’ they will forfeit the
game. (See forfeitures under Team Responsibilities)
NO EXCEPTIONS, 10 MIN. GRACE ONLY.
5)
Supplied catcher. The 2 teams must agree on supplying a
catcher. Please do not ask the umpire to ask the other
team for a catcher, take it upon your self to ask the
other team and then inform the umpire of the on goings.
If a team is playing with 7 or 8 players the other team
should in fairness provide a catcher, remember this is a
Rec league.
6) Up
to eleven players may take a defensive position any
where in the field. The only positions that must be
occupied are the pitcher and the catcher.
7) You
may bat as many as eleven batters in your half of any
one inning, as long as no batter bats twice in the same
inning. The last batter of any such inning must announce
himself to the umpire.
8) The
last batter may not walk. This batter has to either
strike out or put the ball in play. If the ball is hit
in fair territory, he must advance as far as he can
before being put out.
9) Our
league plays eight innings or until time runs out. If
the home team is winning in the home half of the last
inning they will not bat.
A – If one team is winning by one more run that the other
team has batters in the last inning the game will be
over.
B – If a team is winning by 16 or more runs after the
sixth inning the game will be over.
10)
Base paths are 65 feet apart.
11)
Pitchers mound is 50 feet from home plate and no further
back then 56 feet. It is also 2 feet wide.
12)
You may slide at any base, but not at home. In order to
be called safe at home, you must have at least 1 foot
down, on or across the safe line which is located from
the Left hand corner extended to the backstop, parallel
with the 1st base line. You must not come
inside the catcher’s safety line either or you will be
called out.
13)
Commitment line. This line is parallel to the safety
line, but twenty feet closer to 3rd base.
Once this line is touched by the base runner, the runner
must continue towards the safe line. If the runner stops
or returns toward 3rd base he will be called
out, unless it is to tag up after a fly ball is caught.
The base runner cannot be tagged while between the
commitment line and the safe line.
14)
Metal cleats are not allowed. If caught wearing
metal cleats, the player will be ejected from the game.
If the same player is caught a 2nd time, he
will be ejected and suspended one game. A 3rd
time suspended for the season.
15)
Courtesy Runners. We allow runners for anybody that is
injured, both before and during the game. If you need a
runner from the start of the game, you must inform the
umpire and the other team captain at the Captain’s
meeting at the start of the game. The runner shall be
the last out.
16)
The batter’s box: The batter must have at
least one of his feet within the area of the back of the
mat, both before the pitch and while making contact with
the ball. The batter also may not cross the imaginary
line that extends the edge of the rubber mat, both
towards the pitcher and back towards the catcher while
making contact with the ball.
17)
HOME RUN RULE
“B” DIVISION –
3 homerun’s per game, any ball hit fair over the fence after the 3rd
is an out.
“A” DIVISION – match plus 1 – a team may only hit 1 more homerun than what the other
team has hit. Any hit after you are plus 1 will be an
out.
